Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) for International Students

1. Who can apply to Tarsus University as an international student?
To apply, you must be in the final year of high school or already graduated. The following groups are eligible:

  • Foreign nationals
  • Blue Card holders (those who renounced Turkish citizenship and their children)
  • Turkish citizens who completed their entire secondary education abroad
  • TRNC (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) nationals with GCE AL results
  • Some dual citizens under special conditions

2. Can I apply if I studied in a high school in Türkiye?
Generally, no. However, if you enrolled in a high school in Türkiye before the 2022–2023 academic year, some exceptions may apply. Please carefully check the guideline for details.

3. How and where do I apply?
All applications are submitted online through the application portal. The application system opens at least one month before the application calendar begins and is announced on the university’s website. You need to upload your documents to the system. Originals will be required at registration.

4. What documents do I need to upload?
The basic required documents include:

  • High school diploma and transcript (with certified Turkish translation)
  • TR-YÖS or equivalent exam result
  • Passport or identity document
  • Turkish and foreign language proficiency certificates (if available)
  • Health insurance document
  • 6 biometric photos
  • Equivalency certificate (for graduates from foreign schools)
  • Additional legal documents for applicants under 18

5. Which exam results are accepted?
The following exams are accepted with the minimum scores:

TR-YÖS 200 (out of 500)
GCE AL AAA
SAT 800 (out of 1600)
Tawjihi 50
Abitur 4 (1 is highest, 4 is lowest)

TR-YÖS is not required for TRNC nationals with valid GCE AL results.

6. How many programs can I apply to?
You can apply to a maximum of 3 different programs. However, you can only be admitted to one.

7. How are applications evaluated?
Applications are reviewed by the International Relations Office. Those who do not meet the requirements or have missing/invalid documents are disqualified. Accepted applicants receive their acceptance letters through the system.

8. How is placement done?
Placement is based on TR-YÖS or equivalent exam scores. If scores are equal, the younger applicant is preferred. Results are announced on the website. If quotas are not filled, additional placement rounds may be conducted.

9. I don’t speak Turkish. Can I start my program?
No. You must have at least a B2-level Turkish proficiency certificate to begin your program. If you don’t have one, you must take the Tarsus-TÖMER exam to determine your level. If found insufficient, you will be offered Turkish preparatory education, which you must successfully complete within 2 years.

10. Is English preparatory class mandatory for English-taught programs?
Yes. If you do not meet English proficiency requirements for such programs, you must take English preparatory education. Turkish and English preparatory courses can be taken simultaneously but must be completed within 2 years.

11. What is the tuition fee?
Tuition fees are determined annually by the University Board based on the minimum wage set by Presidential Decree. Updated fees will be announced during the registration period.

12. Who can register? Can I register by mail?
Registration must be done in person or by your legal representative. Registration by mail is not accepted. Documents must be complete; otherwise, registration will not be processed.

13. What if I don’t have my equivalency certificate?
You may be granted temporary registration and given 1 month to submit the certificate. If not submitted within this period, your registration will be canceled.

14. What if I miss the registration period?
You will lose your right to register if you do not complete the process within the designated registration dates.

15. Why doesn’t the university accept all applicants?
Meeting the application requirements does not guarantee admission. Admission depends on quotas and the discretion of the Placement Committee.

16. Under what conditions will I lose my student status?

  • Submitting false or misleading documents
  • Failing to complete Turkish or preparatory education on time
  • Not taking required exams or failing them
  • Violating relevant laws or regulations

17. How will the university communicate with me?
All announcements are posted on the university website. You may also receive updates via SMS or email. Therefore, it is important to keep your contact information up to date in the system.

18. What are my responsibilities after arriving in Türkiye?
All international students in Türkiye are required to comply with regulations regarding immigration, residence, health insurance, visa, and education.
